Here is an interesting article I've read and gave a little thought. The idea which hides behind the article is that you may want to double think on the fact who are the ones you want to be as a part of your team. At the end, indeed, it is the people working on the project make it happen. I think this is the main idea of the startups: not too many people working on a project, usually 2-3, all having the same goal and all rowing forward, aiming the success of the project, and soon.

Credit cards - Part 2

Credit card numbers are often misused - whether they are valid or not. A small software utility application, called Credit Card Verifier, provides a credit card number validity check. This offers the possibility of checking the validity of a credit card number offline, and do not think that it checks the existence of an account assigned to that number.
There is a drawback of using it, since there are applications that generate credit card numbers. Graham has provided such an application. So you may have a correct credit card number, as it was generated accordingly to the rules that are at the creation of credit card numbers, but it may not be assigned to any account, so using a utility application offline is not the cleverest choice.
I would say always try to use a standard online method to do this, as you can never be careful enough.

There are advantages and disadvantages of having a credit card. Unfortunately, some of the people are trying to use not their own, but others cards and their numbers. I do not agree with this, and I suggest to take the advice of this guy for getting a credit card number for free:

Gmail features

You can use many of the features provided as enhancement periodically by the Gmail. You can, just for a quick example, sort your mails using the label filter and a keyword like read, unread, starred and so on (e.g. label:read).
Cedric here has some interesting posts (post1, post2) on Gmail features. I must agree, it is a pretty neat free service.

Satellite Radio

I like to hear music while I work, and as I usually do it near or in front of a computer, I picked to listen to radios, which are offering a large variety of music and with songs that do not repeat themselves.

There are three stations I like to listen to. But no, I don't do it in parallel. Just once at a time, shifting from on to another, depending on the country I am in at the moment, but most probably listening to another country's radio-station. It is fun.

I started with Sláger Rádió Minden idők legnagyobb slágerei (translated from hungarian: Greatest hits of all times), pretty long time ago. While my summer trip to the USA, in NJ/NY, I took the fancy of listening to 106.7 Lite fm The best variety of yesterday and today. I cannot explain why, but in general the "american dream" grow to my heart. Lately, I have started listening to 104,6 RTL Berlins Hit-Radio.

Recently I have bumped through an article with Howard Stern and shortly I have discovered the existence of satellite radios. The one I have tried out with a trial registration was XM Radio and I have been impressed by the variety of the music that they provide. They provide 100% commercial-free music, "covering virtually every genre." The great thing is that you may as well take it with you, in your car or wherever you go. And even shuffle among the variety of offered songs and genres. There is also Sirius, I suggest you try it out.

Firefox 1.5 is out

If you haven't tried it out so far, it means you have probably not heard about it yet. The "new version of the award-winning Web browser" is now released.

There have been included some cool new features, which are supposed to make you happier :-). However I just had a rather interesting experience with the Master Password feature. While trying to remove it, as I did not find it useful, it just didn't accept the password I previously set. I may have forgotten it, or not type it in correctly. But I know it was the second. The solution for such inconvenience is MozillaZine knowledge base, which documents various information about Mozilla applications and products.

So if you want to remove your master password and you lost it or just don't remember, just type in to your Location Bar "chrome://browser/content/pref-masterpass.xul" and you can reset your password. For not loosing your saved passwords, read more here.

BitTorrent P2P for Mozilla

firepuddle is a project that aims to bring BitTorrent P2P Download to Mozilla Firefox. The project is currently in the early stages. Alpha Preview 0.0.2 now available for Firefox 1.5 BETA 1 for Windows. That, from my point of view, will not last too long till a release. And how to manage .torrent file types, because in Firefox you can customize the way file extensions are handled.

Legal issues

BitTorrent has become famous for its ability to also share copyrighted files.
BBC News: "Wednesday, 23 November 2005: The movie industry and the man behind BitTorrent signed a deal they hoped would reduce the number of pirated films shared on the downloading network. The deal covered films found via the bittorrent.com website run by Bram Cohen - creator of the download system. It meant bittorrent.com had to remove any links to pirated films made by seven Hollywood movie studios. As it only covered the bittorrent.com website it is unclear what overall effect this has had on net piracy."

Web seeding

"One recently implemented feature of BitTorrent is web seeding. The advantage of this feature is that a site may distribute a torrent for a particular file or batch of files and make those files available for download from that same web server application; this can simplify seeding and load balancing greatly once support for this feature is implemented in the various BitTorrent clients. In theory, this would make using BitTorrent almost as easy for a web publisher as simply creating a direct download while allowing some of the upload bandwidth demands to be placed upon the downloaders (who normally use only a very small portion of their upload bandwidth capacity). This feature is an unofficial one, created by TheSHAD0W, who created BitTornado".

MIT research on Aluminium Foil Helmets

Aluminium Foil Helmets are believed to protect the brain by influences such as electromagnetic fields. They are also worn as a shield against mind manipulating rays.
The MIT engineers have conducted an empirical study on this issue.

It has long been suspected that the government has been using satellites to read and control the minds of certain citizens. The use of aluminum helmets has been a common guerrilla tactic against the government's invasive tactics.

I guess you wonder if it makes sense. David Pescovitz also must have thought on something similar.

Extend Firefox

are needed for the new Firefox 1.5, an overview of features presented by Jesse Ruderman.

Travel with Google Earth

I don't know if you are a big traveller, if you like to see new places from all over the world. I am. I do. I like to travel, and I enjoy walking on the streets of the cities I have never been before, together with my girlfriend.

Google has taken one more step. It has created Google Earth. Now you can "travel" anywhere on the Earth. Basically fly from one place to another - like they put it. Yet not all the globe is covered with high resolution images, but I hope with time this will change and the guys from the Google will fill this lack.

I will do "travel" a lot to places in the USA, as I got amazed by the american way - american dream during my only visit (till now) to this country.

This is a place I have seen with the Google Earth.

Startups vs. Legends

It has been around the thought that startups can do very well. There have been some really good examples for quite a long, e.g. Microsoft. In my opinion, successful companies usually get started by small teams of entrepreneurs, who work really hard in the beginning.

It has been a fact, that many of the startups fail, and I can say many, as I once read only 1 out of 10 will succeed. In the experiment that went on this summer, this number was proved to be at least no accurate, if wrong. It was demonstrated as well what is needed to start a startup. At the end, it finally got to the wide audience that, yes, young people, who are motivated enough and want to do something on their own, can and will succeed.

To summarize, roughly it is needed a minimum amount of money (relative to the place on the planet you want to start up), a quality ideea and few people willing to work hard and give their best.
